Readers Write: Don’t create ‘urban environment’ in VGN

The Island Now

This Tuesday, Feb. 19, the future of the Village of Great Neck will be hanging in the balance.

Mayor Pedram Bral has proposed a major change to the zoning of both Middle Neck Road and East Shore Road, allowing for five-story apartment houses, or perhaps even higher ones, on these roads.

This will create an urban environment and will create overcrowding on our roads and in our schools. Along East Shore Road, the water view of current residents will be blocked.

It is of utmost importance that the residents of the Village of Great Neck, as well as other residents of the peninsula, come forward on Tuesday evening to voice your objections to this plan.

Many of us do see the need for changes, but they should not include relaxing the height and setback limits of our buildings.

The meeting officially begins at 7:30 p.m., but I urge you to come early.

On Feb. 5, the room was overflowing, with many people standing in the lobby of the Village Hall. If you can’t come, send in a letter immediately to jgill@greatneckvillage.org. A deadline of Tuesday, Feb. 19 for letters has been set by the mayor.
