Readers Write: Ed warrior thanks voters for PW Board seat

The Island Now

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted in the recent Port Washington School District election — even those who did not vote for me.  Our system of government works best when citizens engage.  More important, however, I would like to thank all the people who supported me in my Board of Education run. I am grateful for the overwhelming support I received from the many different stakeholders who care about Port’s children.

Thank you to everyone who signed my petition, wrote Letters to the Editor, encouraged me, sweated and froze and got sunburned at the train station with me (and the commuters there who humored me), stumped for me, inspired me, showed interest in the issues, and asked questions of me, created for me, made sure I ate, devoted hours upon hours of their time for me, voted for me!  And more.

For over six years, I have been advocating as a lay person at the state and national levels for the educational well-being of K-12 kids.  As a board member, I will continue my work to strengthen a whole child education for Port’s children by fighting against mandates and policies that harm our students and for increased state aid.  In my newly elected capacity, I will use my fiscally conservative nature to spend taxpayer dollars efficiently and effectively.  In addition, I hope to increase community awareness and involvement within our school district and will work to ensure transparency.  Please remember: Board of Education meeting notices are routinely posted on the Campus Drive electronic billboard and on the district’s website. In addition, all full Board of Education meetings are live streamed.

I am excited to bring my knowledge, experience, and state and national advocacy to my hometown and look forward to working with my fellow board members, our new superintendent, and all those who work in our schools and who support our children, to make a positive impact — always striving to move Port schools forward in our wonderful community.  I will continue to work hard with energy and enthusiasm and to advocate to make our schools a great place for the kids of Port Washington. Thank you again.

It will be a privilege and honor to serve our beautiful community.
