Readers Write: G.N. Plaza budget is self-serving for mayor

The Island Now

I read with interest the article in the Jan. 26 issue of the Great Neck News about the Village of Great Neck Plaza’s $7.1M budget and tax increase, which includes an enhanced personal benefits package of over $400,000 and a $10,000 budget cut for code enforcement.

The code enforcement budget cut will undoubtedly make it even easier for the Shop Delight employees and the entitled double parkers everywhere in the village to continue to park with impunity.

The hard-working Plaza employees, who depend upon their salaries to live, certainly deserve a decent benefits package; but let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to our illustrious full-time Mayor Jean Celender for once again feathering her own nest and those of her noble elected minions —whom she gifted with the highest and most inflated salaries among all village officials on the Great Neck peninsula — at the expense of the law-abiding constituents of her village.
