Readers Write: G.N. rally against anti-Semitism fuels more hatred

The Island Now

Thank you to Steven Walk for pointing out that the so-called “rally against hate and anti-Semitism” held in Great Neck on March 31 was not the benign, all-inclusive event it was promoted as being.

In fact, said event was nothing more than a flimsy excuse for members of Long Island’s far-right fringe to gather together and excoriate U.S. Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The right-wing literature being distributed and the “Jews for Trump” and “No Left Turn” protest signs made the organizers’ and attendees’ true motives abundantly clear.

Every elected official who lent this event legitimacy should be ashamed, including Kathleen Rice, Tom Suozzi, Laura Curran, Judi Bosworth, Ellen Birnbaum, Veronica Lurvey and Tom DiNapoli.

By playing along when bad-faith accusations of anti-Semitism are wielded as a political cudgel, you make it all the more difficult to actually work against, expose and deter anti-Semitic discrimination, hate speech and violence.
