Readers Write: Katz offers new chance to rescue Plaza

The Island Now

We all know that the Celender/Rosen administration is not on the ball. Their “policies” have left us with a mess—stores closing, very high traffic/pedestrian accidents, a rotten parking situation and no transparency. We never know what they’re actually talking about at their meetings or how they really spend our money.

We’re neither stupid not incompetent. Most, if not all of us, can understand English and we’re able to read financial statements. Why not let us in on this secret inside information?

We should have readily available details about what affects our lives in the village. How many of us know that their part-time trustees are getting taxpayer-funded paid health and pension benefits? Part timers? It’s absurd!

Where is the follow-through on our complaints? Now their excuse is that because of the virus they’re working from home. Where were they for the 25 years before the virus hit?

Nothing has changed, except now they have a new excuse for doing nothing. We’ve given them more than enough time to make things better and instead they’ve let things get worse.

What about our property values? Who wants to see a real estate crisis in the village? With the continual erosion of the business and commercial tax base, we the residents will take another hit not only to our pocketbooks but also to a decline in the values of our homes.

I say, let’s put Katz and his team to work making things better for us. We’ve got nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

This mayoral election gives us an opportunity to help ourselves. We have a choice. This may be our last chance to get the Plaza resuscitated. Let’s not waste it!

Come out on Sept. 15, or request an absentee ballot, to vote for the Katz team.
