Readers Write: Katz team will revive Great Neck Plaza

The Island Now

Great Neck Plaza is dying. A once vibrant village is slowly becoming a ghost town. Let me tell you why.

It is difficult to drive into the village because the flawed “traffic-calming” projects have created gridlock and delays. Once you get there, and if you are fortunate enough to find a place to park, you face the danger of being a pedestrian.

If you don’t get hit by a car driven by an aggressive driver, you risk tripping and falling on the dangerous brick sidewalks which are booby traps for potential broken bones!

Landlords are taking losses on empty stores, causing merchants to face higher rents. “For Rent” signs are overtaking the business district.

This is the legacy of an administration which has left a wound on our village that will not heal. Now they want to cover it with a new bandage from the same old package.

Ted Rosen and Pam Marksheid are ineffective and obsolete. Their decades of “experience” are bringing forth cries for substantive change.

Let me be clear. When I had dealings with Rosen, he never once returned a call or responded to an email. And do not forget that, on multiple occasions, both Ted and Pam voted against their constituents when we needed them. For example, they chose Tulip’s illegal nightclub over residents’ quality of life, allowing drunk and disorderly patrons to wreak havoc on our neighborhood.  And they refused to follow through on a sorely needed residential garage under the post office that had already been approved. Instead, they gave us a beautification project with a vanity park that no one wanted or needed.

When Ted and Pam didn’t like that we called them out for actions that disenfranchised their residents, they continually tried to make my wife and me scapegoats by manipulating facts and blaming us for their inadequacies and ineptitude. If the Rosen team is elected, they’ll do it again. We need an administration who will work for their constituents, not for themselves!

A government needs proactive leaders with energy and drive to identify problems and find solutions to them. The Katz team will revive Great Neck Plaza because they not only have the necessary skills to do so, but also because they care!

Write in your votes for Leonard Katz, Marnie Ives and Robert Farajollah on Sept. 15. They will give our village the sorely needed transfusion that will save its life. And they will be there for US!
