Readers Write: Mayor Bral has revitalized Great Neck Village

The Island Now

The term “revitalization” is a misnomer in reference to Great Neck Village.

As a Great Neck Village resident for well over 60 years, there had been very little changes in the appearance of most of the stores and buildings along Middle Neck Road, until Mayor Pedram Bral began to “vitalize” our Village.

Mayor Bral is self-made, honest, and will not be influenced by developers. He has proven his ability as a hardworking mayor whose objective is to improve our Village on many fronts. Dr. Bral is currently the fellowship program director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center and is well-recognized and respected in his specialty.

I have been working with prior mayors for more than 45 years to clean up the dumpsite behind the Bagel Hut. For the first time, Mayor Bral solved that overwhelming problem.

Baker Hill Road and all of the other main roads and side streets throughout the Village are now well lit and safer for both cars and pedestrians due to Mayor Brat’s LED light initiatives. Berkshire Road has lights for the first time in its history. The prior lighting was poor and defective.

LED lighting is the main form of lighting used throughout major cities and villages in the United States. LED lighting is extremely energy efficient using only a fraction of the energy of incandescent and high-pressured sodium lighting that was previously used. This has provided a tremendous cost savings to the Village, to the tune of over $100,000 per year.

Mayor Bral has been influential in coordinating the opening of the most popular and probably the best new restaurant in all of Great Neck, Marie Blachere’s Boulangerie Tarterie Sandwicheris. It has become so popular that there are many times when it is difficult to find a seat. There will be dining on the roof area for the warmer weather.

He is working on bringing in other restaurants with similar facilities but different menus to satisfy the diverse palates of our Village residents. All of his efforts will “vitalize” our Village and should attract more foot traffic and business. Ultimately, a vibrant business district will offset the residential tax burden.

Dr. Bral’s zoning initiatives will be significantly lower than the allowable level requiring commercial units throughout the ground floor, including but not limited to  quality restaurants. He is actively involved in the vitalization of our Village. He has young children and older relatives living in the Great Neck Village for over 20 years and understands the variety of needs of all the residence of our community.

His opponent, James Wu, has never held an official public office and has little or no experience being a mayor of our Village.

Dr. Pedram Bram has proven that he is a fast learner, has integrity, is unselfish and only wants to vitalize our Village for the benefit of all of us. We have a win-win mayor and he should receive your vote of confidence.

Dr. Carl J. Abraham
