Readers Write: Moore a role model for many

The Island Now

We have just lost Mary Tyler Moore, who passed away at age 80.

She made us laugh in the “Dick Van Dyke Show” and the “Mary Tyler Moore Show,” and was a role model for women and appeared on Broadway and in movies.

She was born in Brooklyn and lived for a time in Flushing, Queens and for a time attended Catholic School.

Yet she was more than an actress, but was active in charity work and various political causes such as animal rights and diabetes.

She lost many people she had loved including a son who died at age 25.

She had many crosses to bear like alcoholism and diabetes.

And yet I think her losses, disappointments and struggles made her stronger and a role model for us all.

Now for all that my heartfelt prayers go out to her family, friends and especially us fans that will miss her and will forever remember Mary Tyler Moore.
