Readers Write: People other than Trump deserve blame in handling of coronavirus epidemic

The Island Now

I read your opinion piece today regarding Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and couldn’t believe my eyes.  Your biased reporting omitted any exculpatory information that might have clouded your one-sided evaluation of recent events.

The first fact, not mentioned, is that the Chinese Communist government lied about this virus, lied about how it was being transmitted and about the seriousness of it.

The physicians that attempted to alert the world to the true facts of this disease conveniently died or disappeared.  In January, Dr. Fauci, “the expert on infectious diseases,” was on CNN stating that the USA had nothing to worry about in relation to this virus.

In the latter part of January, when more information was available, Trump enacted the travel ban on China.  He was ridiculed for that decision.  Nancy Pelosi was prancing around in Chinatown in California telling people not to be afraid to go there and see the sights.  Mayor De Blasio was encouraging everyone to come to NYC.

“Go to our restaurants, go to our theaters, see N.Y.”  Joe Biden was calling Trump a Xenophobe and a racist and now he lies and says he was for the ban all along.

None of these people took this seriously and not one is mentioned in your column.  As an RN of over 60 years, I know for a fact that local governments and states determine how many hospital beds are in a given area along with how many CAT Scan machines and MRI machines, etc.

Gov. Cuomo was told years ago that NY would not be prepared for a pandemic like this and instead of purchasing 15,000 ventilators that he was offered, he bought solar panels. Now he is crying poor.

This virus has become a learning experience for everyone involved.  The experts, the politicians, the general public and your hindsight quarterbacks sit in your offices criticizing and running down all concerned and especially President Trump.

Never one word of any encouragement.  If you are going to tell a story then tell the whole story.  That is one of the reasons that the public has lost faith in the press.
