The Island Now

It is time to cut through the political rhetoric, misstatements and untruths regarding state Sen. Elaine Philips.

While currently serving as Mayor of the Village of Williston Park, I have had a tremendous amount of interaction with Sen. Philips, and it has always been positive.

She has been extremely helpful and dedicated to resolving various issues, when called upon. As a former mayor, she fully understood the needs of her constituents and has utilized this experience to deal with her current, larger constituency.

She is an individual who has gone out of her way to listen and react to the concerns of both district and state issues, not hesitating to “work across the aisle.” Sen. Philips is accessible and available to all, as she works tirelessly, to provide representation for Long Island residents.

In this, her first term, she has made a point of becoming familiar and knowledgeable of the pressing needs facing the communities she represents. She is not afraid to stand up for her beliefs and acts for the benefit of all, regardless of party affiliation.

Her presence in Albany has been a benefit for all those she serves. She has made it a point to stand up to for Nassau County over New York City, in order to protect the needs of Long Island.

Sen. Phillips has been supportive of our veterans, first responders and our school districts.  As mayor, I can attest to her commitment to our first responders. She has helped secure funding to assist in the purchase of fire equipment for Williston Park and other fire departments in her district.

As the former president of the Herricks School Board, the need to protect state funding is paramount for all long island school districts.

Her commitment in this area is critical for all Long Island. She is an effective leader, who listens, digests and takes needed action.

While not in Albany, the senator is personally active and visible throughout her Senate District, sponsoring health and informational programs, supporting Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Senior Programs and disaster preparedness to name a few.

Long Island is a wonderful place to live, with the help and support of Sen. Elaine Phillips, residents can expect to have improved quality of life.

Keeping residents safe, maintaining school funding, supporting law enforcement and working to help keep taxes down is a high priority for Senator Philips.

My wife, Doreen Ehrbar, former mayor of Williston Park, fully supports this message and with me, ask all to vote for Elaine Philips on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Paul M. Ehrbar
