Readers Write: Sad that Phillips likes to spend taxpayer money to promote herself

The Island Now

We received two mailings this week (9/25) from the “office of NYS Sen. Elaine Phillips,” printed and mailed at taxpayers’ expense, self-promoting what she calls delivering for her community.

Taking credit for increases to state aid in education, as if the governor and state Assembly and other NYS senators had little to do with any increase.

Her effort to get our community record school aid has not prevented our school taxes from continuing to increase. The senator talks about “bringing home 100 million in new education funding for Nassau County,” yet she doesn’t represent all of Nassau County, only the 7th SD.

Even to take credit for providing Nassau County with additional funding, how generous of her, I wonder if all the Nassau County state senators are entitled to this credit as well or was this only the result of her effort.

The senator has had no impact in getting the funding necessary to reopen the Sixth Precent in Manhasset, even with her self-promoting her effort in public safety.

Phillips claims to work “hard to bring Democrats and Republicans together to tackle important issues and get results.” Is that why in Republican registered parts of the district, she uses Republican blue billboard signs and in Democratic portions of the district she is using white signs, more traditionally colors used by Democrats?

We shouldn’t be fooled, she is a Donald Trump Republican.

In holding MTA accountable, as she claims, when will her district’s LIRR rides have the Grand Central terminal and Eastside Access available for their use?

The senator joined her other Republican state senators in opposition to four amendments proposed to sensible guns laws; including more background checks and banning bump stocks in New York state.

The senator’s claim to be working to better her Senate district appears to be counter to her Republican leadership.

The second mailer, promoted her sponsorship of a “free hearing test,” it seems the state senator during this election campaign season has figured out that it was a good idea to support multiple community free events, but ONLY during this election season.

Time for a change for a REAL state senator that will represent all of the 7th SD and not take credit for the work of others.

Success is dependent on team effort by all senators from the County not just one.
