Readers Write: Seniors, get out and vote

The Island Now

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 6t. And it is a time for all registered voters to do our civic duty and vote.

There are many issues out there and demand our concern and attention. Remember what our elected officials do effects all of us. Especially our senior citizens like myself, who worry about our benefits being reduced.

According to the AARP, Social Security will fall short in 2034, if that happens benefits will drop by 20 percent.

Also prescriptions drug costs are increasing at the rate faster than inflation. And added to all that the Medicare trust fund will fall short by 2026.

These are important issues for all of our seniors to worry about. That is why I call upon seniors to get out and vote for those candidates who will work hard for these senior citizen issues.

Do some research and find out who they are and vote. So get your walkers, canes and wheelchairs and vote and let our elected officials know that we are an important voting block. Remember this: our senior citizens made this great nation what it is today.
