Readers Write: Thank you to the Manhasset Community

The Island Now

I want to convey a deep and heartfelt “thank you” to the Manhasset community for re-electing me to the Board of Education. I am truly humbled by your support and confidence, and I am honored and privileged to continue to serve our community.

The past few months have strained how we conduct our daily lives, how adults work and how students learn, and especially how we find alternate modes of communication when we cannot be together in person.

Even in our “remote isolation” over these recent months, we continued to share concerns and diverse ideas about how to best manage during these uncertain times, and over twice as many community members made the effort to engage and vote on the budget and board election compared to the prior year.

This engagement reinforced that we can thoughtfully address our challenges by working together, by communicating honestly and effectively, by basing our decisions on facts rather than rumor or speculation, and by always keeping the best interests of our students in mind.

We recognize that we must continue to develop new and innovative channels for learning, and of course continue our efforts to ensure our schools are a fair and equitable learning environment and workplace.

I love this community. I pledge to you that I’m as committed, passionate, and focused as ever on maintaining and improving the excellent education our children receive while exercising fiscal responsibility for our community.

I look forward to continuing a healthy, transparent, and informed dialogue as we work together on behalf of our Manhasset community.
