Readers Write: Turano offers right temperament, background for Munsey Park

The Island Now

I am writing this letter in support of the candidacy of John Turano for village justice of Munsey Park.

I first met John Turano about 29 years ago on the field in front of Manhasset High School watching our oldest sons playing soccer.  He and his wife had recently moved to Munsey Park.

It turned out we had lots in common.

We both had similar backgrounds growing up.  We both had three sons whose ages line up.

His wife and I were professors.  Our families continued to meet at various sporting events and became friends. John has practiced law for 48 years, a good portion of which has been spent in the courtroom, and for the past 14 he has served as the Munsey Park village justice.

Prior to that John was an assistant district attorney for over three years and a deputy town attorney for the Town of North Hempstead for four and a half years.

He also served as the Prosecuting Attorney for the Villages of Lake Success and New Hyde Park for over 40 years.

He has been a Little League coach and volunteer parent at Our Lady of Grace Montessori School.  He is currently involved in his church’s men’s ministry and regularly serves as an usher.  He is an avid cyclist, kayaker and runner.

It is often said that a Village Justice Court is the “People’s Court,” in that for most people, it’s their first experience with the criminal justice system.

Munsey Park Village Court typically handles traffic and building-code violations.  John has always treated the parties who appear before him fairly, with dignity and respect.

I believe John’s background, experience and temperament make John the person to serve the people of Munsey Park as their Village Justice for another term of office.

On Tuesday, March 20, please join me and vote for John Turano for Village Justice of Munsey Park.
