Readers Write: Vote for Stellato on Dec. 12

The Island Now

On Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, a long time Great Neck Park District commissioner Ruth Tamarin resigned. She served 15 years as a Parks Commissioner and played an important role in helping to achieve the goals and objectives of the district at the time.

Since then, no woman has been elected to serve as a commissioner. Gender diversity on boards is critical to sustaining performance. Diversity brings more effective decision-making and is vital to understanding and working together more effectively.

Since 52 percent of the population is female, it is our responsibility to make sure that we have a voice, a “woman’s voice.” For this reason, it is imperative we help and elect our new candidate for Park Commissioner, Tina Stellato.

Tina graduated from St. John University 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. She has been devoted to the Park District as an employee at Parkwood Tennis for 17 years, where she served as a desk attendant, tennis instructor and lesson scheduler. As a former Assistant Manager and Buyer for retail giant Fox’s flagship Mineola store, Tina has a strong management and purchasing background which will serve her well as Park District Commissioner. In addition, she is currently a licensed real-estate associate at Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty.

She is a Great Neck mother with young kids looking to develop new programs for our children and grandchildren in the areas of science, sport, agriculture and special needs. She brings a fresh approach and new ideas to make Great Neck a better place for all of us. Aside from these special interests, Tina also is invested in highlighting the importance of family values and developing programs between children and the elderly encouraging communication between younger and older generations here in our town.

All of these goals are just a few examples of what Tina has in store for the Park District. In addition to our existing plans to solve the parking issues for the commuters in Great Neck and help in overseeing our budget, which is an ongoing, project shaped and updated by qualified professionals led by our superintendent.

Please help elect Tina Stellato to be our new Parks Commissioner on Dec. 12. Tina brings to the table youth, energy and tremendous work discipline.
