On March 18th, the Village of East Williston will hold village elections. Along with the usual ballots an important referendum, entitled Proposition 1-2020, will be held.
The village has a Length of Service Award Program to award eligible volunteer firefighters a service award payment after reaching the age of 65 at which time they can no longer earn credit.
The village board considered the age issue and in fairness to those who serve our community decided to remove the age restriction which requires permission from the village’s residents.
The lifeblood of maintaining the sanctity of our village in general and specifically our homes depends on these volunteer firefighters. They do more than fight fires, they respond to auto crashes, downed wires, and medical emergencies.
A number of years ago while undergoing chemotherapy I suffered what I thought was a heart attack. Within a very few minutes, a first responder was at my door, ahead of the ambulance. They did what they had to do and soon I was in the Winthrop ER. Luckily, I had a favorable outcome.
For the approximate sum of $10 per year, we can show our firefighters that we really appreciate the time and effort they put in on our behalf.
Please VOTE YES ON PROPOSITION 1-2020!
