Readers Write: Tamarin has earned our trust, support

The Island Now

So rarely these days do we have the opportunity to cast a vote without pause or reservation.  That opportunity presents itself on Dec. 10 when we elect a park commissioner. And the candidate who has unquestionably earned our trust and endorsement is Ruth Tamarin.

Ruth has served as Park Commissioner since 1998 and, throughout her tenure, worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of the park district.  The evidence is clear; just look at the outstanding condition of our parks and facilities, the range of programs and activities for all ages and abilities, and the strong financial position of the district. Ruth has been involved in upgrading, restoring and beautifying our parks and facilities to an enviable level.

And we must not forget how Ruth spearheaded the efforts to obtain a portion of the former Cohan estate, thereby expanding Steppingstone Park and preserving that extraordinary waterfront space for public use.

As sailors, we are very familiar with Ruth’s efforts regarding the marina at Steppingstone Park, which not only provides a convenient and safe venue for boaters, but also a wonderful location for anyone who wants to view some amazing sunsets.

However, our involvement and interest in the parks extends beyond the marina. We and our children and grandchildren have enjoyed any number of park events and activities, including skating, sailing, ice hockey, nature programs, swimming, tennis, playgrounds, movies, concerts, arts & crafts, yoga, and so much more.  It is through Ruth’s efforts over the years that these programs thrive.

We know other park district residents will agree: Ruth Tamarin has been a committed and hard working steward of the park district.  She deserves our support.
