Readers Write: Tamarin has record of improving GN’s parks

The Island Now

In the [Great Neck] Park District election coming up on Dec. 10, Commissioner Ruth Tamarin is seeking re-election, having served the community faithfully and effectively for 15 years. During her time of service, Tamarin has played a key role in protecting and enhancing our priceless park district assets, which have proven to be so vital both to the quality of life in Great Neck and the value of our properties.

Her long list of accomplishments includes the expansion of the waterfront at Steppingstone Park, thus blocking impending development of adjacent housing, a carefully planned and staged (and needed) renovation of virtually all recreational facilities and equipment including the village green, constant restructuring of Park District programs to meet the changing needs of residents, carefully crafted policies to promote the growth of a skilled staff that can shoulder increased levels of responsibility and service to the community, and the creation of a private park foundation to provide financial support.

Commissioner Tamarin’s immense contributions have been accompanied by a well-founded concern for the interests of taxpayers and for preserving our environment for future generations.

Tamarin’s experience and knowledge will serve the community well in the future as the Park District continues to enhance and protect our park assets while keeping a tight rein on costs. There is every reason, in my opinion, to keep Commissioner Tamarin in office.
