Our Views: Thank you volunteers

The Island Now

Since Hurricane Sandy struck thousands of volunteers throughout Long Island have responded generously with their time and money. In churches and synagogues, in businesses and schools people collected every type of supply from blankets and food to baby items and batteries for victims of the storm.

Others when door-to-door with flashlights to make sure that elderly neighbors were taken care of.  Volunteers and supplies are still needed in places like the Rockaways.

Despite understandable frustration, Sandy has brought out the best of us. The Island has the right to be proud.
