Readers Write: Walmart practices unfair every which way

The Island Now

According to recent news, one is able to conclude the possibility that Walmart Inc. may deal as much as a quintuple whammy to the people.

First, Walmart is intending to build stores in Washington, D.C. paying only the minimum wage ($7.25) for their construction. There is opposition to this and $12.50 per hour, a living wage, is being requested.

Second, those who would work in those stores would not be fairly compensated as is well known.

Third, those stores would mean the death of many businesses in the D.C. area.

Fourth, Walmart and Target among others are unwilling to sign an accord guaranteeing fair treatment, compensation and safety for those who produce much of the goods they sell.

Fifth, Walmart, along with others might be keeping its wealth off shore to avoid paying taxes which would benefit everyone. More recently I noticed that those who work in places such as McDonalds are demanding a living wage of $15.00 per hour.

The two desired wages herein mentioned are in line with what I have mentioned before as being equitable with today’s reality. Investing in the stock market is generally considered to be a gamble and one hopes a business will do well.

It is different when the stockholders gang up on management to do whatever to get a better return on an investment. If they could get the goods produced for a wage of seven instead of eight cents an hour they would have no qualms about doing so. Here is a good example of who and what thugs are.

Conceivably, it is as if a large part of Congress and part of the Supreme Court are in bed with the corporations. The people have been sold out. That means internationally as we all now are only a text away. The people do however have to be careful as there have been numerous instances even in this country where the police have been used to bash heads and beat down just opposition to injustice.
