PROS Consulting, the consultant for the Great Neck Park District’s new master plan, will be unveiling what they have learned so far in two weeks, as the process setting the stage for the district’s future enters its final months.

Great Neck Park District Commissioner Bob Lincoln said the presentation, titled “Our Parks, Our Future – Findings and Directions,” is the result of surveys and community input. It will feature findings on priority programs, what the district’s needs and wants are, and a comparison of other park district systems nationwide, he said.

“It’s not the final final outcome, but it’s a presentation of what they have come up with,” Lincoln said, adding that the master plan process is expected to be wrapping up by early fall the latest.

The presentation will take place at Great Neck North High School, located at 35 Polo Road, on Thursday, July 25, starting at 8 p.m. Lincoln said this location was chosen to try and get as many people to come out as possible.

“We want people to participate and we don’t want to cut them off from giving their thoughts or asking their questions,” Lincoln said.

It was more than a decade since the Great Neck Park District last worked on creating a master plan, which aims to give the district direction in guiding policy, setting priorities and setting a framework for spending.

The creation of the previous master plan in 2005 involved public hearings, a community survey, and support for additional programs, summer concerts and items like the Parkwood Pool.
