Part of Roslyn Road to be closed on Saturday for construction

A section of Roslyn Road between I.U. Willets Road and Strawberry Lane will be closed on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for repairs to an electrical cable, PSEG Long Island announced.

“PSEG Long Island is repairing and reinforcing a section of transmission cable running beneath Roslyn Road,” a release from the energy company said. “This closure is necessary to repair critical equipment that provides electric service for thousands of customers throughout Nassau County.”

The closure is part of an ongoing three-month project by the PSEG Long Island, which for the past four weeks has reduced the four-lane roadway to two lanes while crews work. The company discovered a fault in the cable in early August, and the necessary repairs require a full excavation of the road, company representative Elizabeth Flagler said.

Once the project is finished, crews will reconstruct the road where they worked, she said.

Detour signs will be placed near the work site to redirect drivers, as well as cones and flagmen so traffic moves smoothly and safely.

There will be no expected disruption in service to PSEG Long Island customers during Saturday’s closure, or throughout the rest of the project.
