A 71-year-old man died after being hit by a car in New Hyde Park on Thursday evening, Nassau County Police Department reported.

Officials said that the man, whose name was not disclosed, was attempting to cross Hillside Avenue northbound in the vicinity of Cellar Avenue before 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

The man was then reportedly struck by a 60-year-old man driving a 2018 Hyundai Tucson while attempting to cross, officials said.

The pedestrian, according to the release, suffered multiple trauma injuries to his body and was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. He was then pronounced dead less than an hour later by a hospital physician, according to the release.

Officials said the driver remained at the scene where his vehicle went through a brake and safety check.  The investigation remains ongoing, according to the release.  Efforts to reach law enforcement officials for an update on the incident were unavailing.
