Phillips gets 13 law enforcement endorsements, Haber receives one

Republican candidate Elaine Phillips received 13 endorsements from  law enforcement groups over the past two weeks in her bid to replace outgoing state Sen. Jack Martins, while her opponent, Democrat Adam Haber, received one law enforcement group endorsement.
Phillips received the endorsement last Wednesday of the Police Conference of New York Inc., which represents 200 police agencies across the state and more than 12 agencies in Nassau County.
“All across Long Island and across New York State, the men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every single day, and events of recent days remind us how much they do to keep us safe,” she said. “In the Senate, I will always stand up for our police and law enforcement and be a champion for public safety, and I am grateful for their support.”
A number of North Shore village police forces are members of the Police Conference of New York, including the Great Neck Estates, Old Westbury and Sands Point police departments.
Phillips, the Flower Hill Village mayor, also received  endorsements Friday from a Nassau County police union that represents 2,500 police officers and the New York State Police Investigators Association.
On Monday, she received the endorsements of 10 more police groups, including the Nassau County Superior Officers Association and the Nassau County Detectives’ Association, the New York Police Department Sergeants Benevolent Association, Lieutenants Benevolent Association and Captains Endowment Association, as well as the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, Suffolk County Detective Investigators PBA, the Suffolk County Detective Association, Suffolk County Police Conference and the Suffolk County Superior Officers Association.
“I am humbled and grateful for the support of these organizations, representing thousands of law enforcement officers across Long Island, for my candidacy,” Phillips said. Haber, a former commodities trader and Roslyn school board trustee, was endorsed last Monday by the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association.
“I’m proud to have the support of our state troopers who work tirelessly to protect our families and communities,” Haber said. “As state senator, I will work hard to ensure the best policies are in place for the safety of our neighborhoods and especially our children.”
In their endorsement, the state troopers PBA cited Haber’s experience.
“Adam Haber understands the critical roles that New York State troopers play in keeping our residents, roadways and property safe,” it said in a statement. “A successful businessman and school board member, Adam Haber has real, private-sector experience creating jobs, attracting investments and managing complex budgets.”
Haber is set to face off in November against Phillips.
The 7th Senate District includes most of the Town of North Hempstead, as well as parts of Elmont, Franklin Square and Hicksville.
