State Sen. Elaine Phillips recently toured the Denton House McDonald’s, a historic landmark in New Hyde Park, which was built in 1795 as a farmhouse and converted into a McDonald’s in 1985.

“McDonald’s has been an American icon for over 50 years and an industry leader in both fast food and franchising,” Phillips said.” Today, McDonald’s provides pathways to further success by providing employees with educational and career-building opportunities. Thank you to Owner and Denton House Operator, Jack Bert, for inviting me to tour the restaurant and learn first-hand about all of McDonald’s programs.”

McDonald’s “Archways to Opportunity” program is a free educational program available to over 800,000 employees offering English language training, high school completion, college tuition assistance and academic advising.

As of December 2017, the program has increased access to education for more than 20,400 company-owned and participating franchisee restaurant employees, including 6,100 graduates from the English Under the Arches program and over 260 graduates from the High School Completion Program. McDonald’s has also provided more than $21 million in high school and college tuition assistance in less than three years.

During her visit, Phillips met director of operations, Leslie Migliorelli – who is currently taking advantage of the tuition-assistance program to further her education.
