Phillips tours Nassau County Fire Services Academy

The Island Now

State Sen. Elaine Phillips recently toured the Nassau County Fire Services Academy with members of the Port Washington Fire Department.

“Every day, our local volunteer firefighters risk their lives to protect our communities and keep us safe,” Phillips said. “It was an honor to stand among the men and women of our local fire departments and to witness the arduous training they endure to have the knowledge, skills and understanding of how to protect our communities. Their dedication and commitment is truly commendable. Thank you to former Chief Tom McDonough, Chief Brian Vogeley and members of the Port Washington Fire Department for allowing me to tour the facility, and to all our firefighters for protecting our communities.”

Phillips witnessed various training exercises and simulations firefighters endure to have the knowledge, skills, and understanding of how to protect communities.

The academy is located on a multi-acre campus and consists of classrooms, apparatus rooms, and a six-story tower, along with separate buildings simulating residences, apartments, an industrial complex, and commercial properties, all of which can be set afire for real-world experience.
