Nassau County police officers found themselves helping to deliver a baby on an assistance call in Mineola last Friday.

The Police Department said that officers responded to call involving a woman in need of medical assistance at 7:10 a.m. Aug. 2 in Mineola.

The department’s public information arm said Officers Elizabeth King, Luigi Viola, and Steven Kovacs found Angelina Yan of Mineola, who was nine months pregnant, on the kitchen floor going into labor. Her husband, Christopher Lam, had called 911 after realizing that the couple would not be able to make it to the hospital to deliver the baby.

After arriving at the couple’s home, the officers helped deliver the baby in the couple’s kitchen. The Police Department said the officers helped bring a healthy baby girl, Madison Olivia Lam, into the world at 7:22 a.m. She weighed 5.5 pounds.

The mother and the baby were taken to NYU Winthrop Hospital after the delivery with assistance from paramedics Chris Abed from Ambulance Corp. and Ian Fried from the Emergency Ambulance Service.

The Police Department’s public information arm said: “The family is happy and healthy.”
