Port holiday magic on Small Business Saturday

The Island Now

Port Holiday Magic turned Small Business Saturday into a day to celebrate our local merchants. The weather was cold and the skies were dark, but the rain held off and the shoppers came out. Main Street was bustling with happy shoppers all afternoon and the atmosphere on the street and inside the stores was of great holiday cheer.

A trolley provided free rides with Santa, who gave out candy canes and Chanukah gelt. Four costumed characters delighted the children as they popped in and out of the stores. Carolers treated the shoppers to festive holiday songs, and free popcorn and cotton candy was available for the asking. Best of all, local businesses offered shoppers great deals on their holiday shopping, along with free refreshments.

The event was organized by the Greater Port Washington BID, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce and Residents Forward. The Town of North Hempstead suspended parking meter fees for the day, and the Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation provided financial support.
