RuDance NY, the latest addition to the Port Washington business community, had its grand opening on Thursday.
Owned and operated by dance partners Bao Ru and Lulu Tan, the Main Street storefront is the second location for Rudance, after one located in Flushing, Queens.
Tan and Ru, who met briefly at China’s Beijing Dance Academy and then encountered each other again upon traveling to the United States, have received international acclaim as dancers for the past 30 years, and have danced together for 10.
“I believe that dancing is wonderful for the social life and good for education,” Tan said. “Our students in Queens all do an excellent job.”
RuDance’s laminated floor was also christened with its first routines: an Argentine tango from two of the studio’s dancers in Queens, and a special freestyle from the Rus.
The much-anticipated dance studio’s first official day saw visits from Town of North Hempstead Clerk Wayne Wink, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and members of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce.
North Hempstead Councilwoman-elect Mariann Dalimonte was also on hand, representing the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District and presenting the studio with a $2,000 check as part of its New Tenants Bonus Program.
“The purpose of the program is to allow our organization to help start a business within the BID district,” Dalimonte said. “We are excited that RuDance NY has chosen Port Washington as their new home, and we wish them much success.”
“Everyone here is so nice and kind, and we’ve had a lovely welcome,” Tan said.
The studio will also be holding open dance hours, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Fridays.
