A project to dredge the Manorhaven boat channel will soon be underway, according to Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Mariann Dalimonte.
In a post to her Facebook page on Sept. 15, Dalimonte announced that the town would be dredging the channel in a window between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31.
“The contractor will be setting up for this project prior to Oct. 1 to begin mobilization,” Dalimonte wrote. “Please note, that we will be eliminating access to the boat ramp, surrounding area, and the south side of the parking lot. It is estimated that one-quarter of the entire parking lot will be used. The de-watering area will be active from Oct. 1 into the late winter/early spring, weather depending.”
The project has been discussed since 2014, and the Town of North Hempstead had said earlier that the project would be completed with partial financial support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency,
