A Port Washington-based painting tool wholesaler is looking to expand its 92,000-square-foot distribution center rather than leave the area.
The Paint Applicator Corp. of America and its head, Steve Geismer, approached the Nassau County IDA at its Dec. 12 meeting, requesting 15 years of property tax savings, a sales-tax exemption of up to $405,550 on the purchase of construction materials and equipment, and $50,900 off the mortgage recording tax.
The total cost is $6.8 million to add 21,300 square feet to the company’s facility instead of leaving Long Island.
The company was founded in 1969 in Queens by Geismer’s father and grandfather, Herb and Teddy, and received its name in 1975.
Paint Applicator, which calls itself “the leading wholesale distributor of paint, hardware, lumber, janitorial, and building supplies serving independent retail dealers throughout the New York Tri-State area,” says the deal would add six to 10 jobs to its 127-person payroll in the next five years.
Former LIPA chief and current IDA Chairman Richard Kessel said at the meeting that Paint Applictor was “the kind of business that is sometimes ignored by governmental entities.”
“You aren’t a huge corporation,” Kessel said. “But you are growing and are the kind of business that we should be helping.”
