Paul D. Schreiber High School Baseball Hall of Famer Brandon Kurz bought Arena Sports in Port Washington, while Arena Graphics will remain under the ownership of Chris Avazis.

Avazis said Kurz was the perfect “sports guy” to bring in to run the sporting goods store, and now he and his new partner, Tom Higgins, can focus more on printing and wholesale.

He said the retail business is tough and he had considered closing the sporting goods store but wanted to keep it open for the people of Port Washington.

Kurz, 38, said that both stores, located at 52 Main St., will complement each other very well. He refers potential clients to Arena Graphics and they do all of the sporting goods store’s embroidery and screen printing.

“It’s a good synergy,” he said.

Kurz said the store will have “lots of Port Washington sports apparel” and billed it as a Port Washington swag store.

Shoppers will also be able to find “high-end sporting goods at a discounted price,” Kurz said.

Before buying Arena Sports, Kurz played collegiate baseball and played overseas on a professional level. He is also involved with the Port Washington Youth Association.

Avazis said that since they separated Arena Graphics, they have been doing a lot of online business that has helped them grow.

The company also embroiders athletic uniforms and team apparel for a number of organizations in and out of Port Washington.
