A small-format Target store is set to open in Port Washington on Oct. 18 and the store is hiring about 100 new employees.
The store will be located in the Soundview Marketplace at 3 Shore Road, near the Soundview Movie Theater. The new Target will take over the former location of King Kullen.
“The assortment that Target will offer at the Soundview Marketplace Shopping Center will be catered to serve the many families who live in Port Washington, offering everything from fresh groceries, apparel and accessories for the whole family, and more,” Kristy Welker, a Target spokeswoman, said.
The new store is looking to fill positions that include leadership roles and “team member roles to assist guests in all areas of the store,” she said.
The Port Washington store will be Target’s 25th store on Long Island, and the company’s third small-format location in the area, following locations in Freeport and Elmont. It will be the first small-format Target store on the North Shore.
“Small-format stores” are more customized to for the local community they serve, Welker said. “These stores provide a quick-trip shopping experience with a curated assortment of merchandise for local guests,” she said. Target wants to reach new guests by building more small-format stores in dense urban and suburban neighborhoods, as well as on college campuses, she added.
“As Target’s presence on Long Island continues to expand, we are proud to serve guests in the North Shore area and be able to add approximately 100 team members with the opening of our Port Washington store,” Shannon Egan, store team leader at Target, said. “We look forward to providing guests with core essentials and premium assortments for either a quick visit before a day out on the boat or to stock up the house for the whole family.”
It is recommended that interested applicants apply online before coming to a job fair being held Monday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Landmark Theater at 232 Main St. Walk-ins are also welcome. Past hiring events were held on July 31, Aug. 2, and Aug. 7.
