All three unopposed candidates won their elections for Port Washington’s garbage and sewer districts on Tuesday.
Mary Giordano will carry on as a commissioner for the Port Washington Garbage District with 403 votes.
Arduino Marinelli will replace Richard Marra in the sewer district after receiving 354 votes.
And with 384 votes, Melanie Cassens will fill the seat of her father, John Olszewski, for the remaining two years of his term with the sewer district. He died in July.
Cassens said she hopes to improve residents’ awareness of what the district does for the community.
Marinelli, the owner of Dimaggio’s Trattoria on Port Washington Boulevard, said he hopes to be an aid in the business side of the district, such as putting out bids for the needed update of sewer systems.
Both of the incoming commissioners said that the sewer district runs smoothly, and they would like to help keep it that way.
Cassens’ and Marinelli’s terms will begin on Jan. 1.
Giovanna DiFiore, the business director of the Port Washington Water Control District, said she was happy with Tuesday’s turnout.
Giordano will now be serving in her fourth term with the garbage district, which recently forged a contract with Meadow Carting. They most likely will not be negotiating again until the last year of her three-year term.
