On Saturday May 22, Port Washington Youth Activities launched its inaugural “Softball Bash” benefit event.

Because of continuing precautionary Covid restrictions at the time, which led to the PYA Annual Hall of Fame Gala to be postponed until 2022, this became the organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

The tournament format consisted of 10 adult co-ed softball teams, each with at least 12 players, consisting of PYA parents, directors, and other community supporters. In all, 180 players took part. 20 local businesses and families sponsored the event as well.

The warm, late spring weather at Lions Field was picture-perfect as a full afternoon of activities and games, including Skills Competitions (a Home Run Derby and “Golden Arm” Competition), auctions, raffles, and prizes, were featured.

There was a variety of food vendor concessions available as well, showcasing epicurean barbecue sauces, custom pastries, and gourmet ice cream treats. In all, it was a terrific day for the families, a successful fundraiser, and is slated to become an annual event for PYA.
