Nassau County police are investigating a man’s death in an Old Westbury car crash during Saturday morning’s rain storm.

The 33-year-old man was driving south on Glen Cove Road around 8:45 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 1999 BMW in the heavy rain and spun into the northbound lane, police said.

The rear end of the BMW hit the front of a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that was driving north, police said.

The BMW driver, whom police have not identified publicly, was taken to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola with head trauma, police said. A hospital physician pronounced him dead at 9:32 a.m.

An ambulance took the 56-year-old man driving the Dodge minivan to a local hospital and treated the cuts he suffered to his head and leg, police said.

Police impounded both vehicles for brake and safety checks, but do not suspect any criminality at this time, police said.

Glen Cove Road was closed for nearly four hours between I.U. Willets Road and the South Service Road of the Long Island Expressway as police investigated the crash, according to Police Department travel advisories.

Old Westbury Police Department officers were the first to respond to the scene, Nassau County police said. An Old Westbury police dispatcher referred questions to the county police.
