A review of the village’s financial status has just been completed by S&P Global Ratings. The report affirmed its “AA” rating for the village finances and “changed the outlook to positive from stable.”
A lengthy report was undertaken and will not be copied in this article. However, it should be noted, that the rating report determined and highlighted the following; Williston Park’s economy is very strong, has a very strong budgetary flexibility, has a strong budgetary performance, and very strong liquidity.
Simply put, the villages’ overall financial position is in excellent condition. This has come about as a result of the work of a fiscally conservative Village Board coupled with a hard-working administrative staff.
Residents should be proud of our village employees who are dedicated to ensuring fiscal restraint on a daily basis, helping to keep taxes down without a loss of services to our taxpayers.
Most taxpayers are unaware of the role your friendly office staff plays in the oversight of village expenses.
Two Saturdays ago the Recreation Committee held a Saint Patrick’s Day coin hunt at Village Hall.
Originally scheduled for Kelleher Field, a change of venue was necessary due to a field covered in snow. An overflowing crowd participated in various craft activities early during this event.
The group was treated to a demonstration of Irish Step Dancing performed by a young group of talented dancers.
After the performance, the youngsters, in attendance were led by our own Leprechaun, Barry Reilly, playing the bagpipes to the Solomon Schechter School parking lot where gold coins had been hidden by unknown Leprechauns.

Our single stream recycling continues to be successful and well received. I encourage all to utilize the service, as more that goes into recycling, less goes into regular garbage. As this happens, savings increase.
Three major storms impacted the village over the past three weeks.
The Village Highway crew did an excellent job in both preparing for the storms and dealing with the effects of the storms.
Plow and salt trucks were effective in keeping our roads safe. Our tree crew was taken away from its daily routine of constant tree trimming to clean up the debris left by these three storms.
They were called into work overnight to assist PSEG after a tree took down power lines on Yale street. With the village providing this service, it allowed PSEG crews to restore power much sooner than would have been possible if the village residents had to wait for PSEG’s tree crew to arrive.
With the village acquiring a second, but larger bucket truck, our tree crew has become extremely competent and timely, in both the necessary removal of some trees and daily trimming of other trees.
The village outside staff “stepped up to the plate” with the work needed to provide safety to village residents. Highway, Sanitation, and Tree crews continue to provide this great village with exceptional service.
Reorganization, over the past number of years, has allowed the village to use in-house staff to complete many projects throughout the village, eliminating the need for expensive outside help
