Readers Write: Apathy to act by the current Plaza administration requires new village leadership

The Island Now

I am a resident of the Village of Great Neck Plaza. I have spent most of my adult life in this community and it has always been a proud moment of mine to share the many wonderful communal benefits of living in this village.

During the past few years, safety and security in the Plaza have reached new lows. I read of deaths due to vehicular accidents, and personally feel the effect of safety concerns for spending time with family and friends in what was once a great place to enjoy. For me and many of my neighbors, there is now a heightened reluctance to head out at night or venture out with family—and certainly never alone.

To that end, the current administration closes its eyes and does nothing to help. Ted Rosen’s response to potential voters’ safety concerns at a recent campaign stop was simply a deflection, claiming that these problems are not within the domain of the village. He showed those present at the meeting that, if elected mayor, he will do what he always does—nothing!

The current administration could and should be lobbying the powers that be to effect change by working with Nassau County and public agencies to help in any way they can. If Ted Rosen is elected mayor, Great Neck Plaza will continue to suffer from ineptitude and political double talk while continuing to do nothing.

I hope that our community pulls together and elects Leonard Katz as mayor for our village. He will not blame the lack of safety and security in the Plaza on someone else. Leonard cares deeply about Great Neck Plaza and he will work with our local government to do the right thing.

The entire Village of Great Neck Plaza, its residents and businesses are ready for a change. We cannot, and will not, stand by while the community we all love continues to fall by the wayside due to governing complacency and a repeat of political party consequences.

Residents of Great Neck Plaza, please go out and vote, make your voice heard, and make change happen by voting for Leonard Katz and his team on March 18th. Our community deserves it.
