Readers Write: D’Urso calls on Curran to drop St. Mary’s game fees

The Island Now

Dear County Executive Curran:

I was disappointed to receive a letter from a parent who has a child currently enrolled at St Mary’s High School in Manhasset.

The letter states that your administration will start to charge the school for usage of tower lights for their outdoor evening games.

For many years these lights have been loaned to the school for their use at no cost.
St Mary’s High School has been providing a quality education for local students for almost seven decades. The school has an athletic program, and many other extracurricular programs, in which most of their students participate and many others come to watch and cheer for them.

They should be able to carry on the tradition of providing fine programs that bring the community together.

I believe the cost which Nassau County is charging is extremely high and out of range for the school. If the fee is not rescinded many games would have to be canceled.
Please look into this matter and consider our high school students.

I hope you continue the long-standing partnership of Nassau County with St. Mary’s High School and its students and their parents of an exceptional high school.
Sincerely,

Anthony D’Urso
Member of Assembly
