Ms. Scherer calls us a Democracy. We are not a democracy; we are a Republican form of government. Read the Constitution.
Second, while I’m not a registered Republican I consider myself most closely aligned with the Republican Party. I am utterly appalled at what happened on January 6, 2021.
Peaceful protest and even civil disobedience have their place in our society. Violent insurrection does not. Nor does the destruction of government property. Nor does the taking of innocent lives.
There are roughly 55,000,000 registered Republicans in this country. Of those 55,000,000, roughly 2,500 stormed the Capitol building. That is hardly the entire GOP.
I also find the RNC classifying the riot as “political discourse” appalling.
It was horrific and one of the darkest hours in our nation’s history. But shame on Ms. Scherer for saying the GOP is destroying this country based on the actions of a lunatic fringe. And shame on The Island Now for publishing such an irresponsible headline.
