Readers write: Islanders are moving back home to Long Island

The Island Now

It has just been announced that the Islanders are moving back to Long Island where they belong. They will have a 18,000 seat arena, built near Belmont Park Race Track in Elmont. It will be on the border of Queens, where I live in Glen Oaks Village.

The NHL team has won a $1 billion bid to build the new arena.

As reported, the construction will start in 2018 and be completed in 2020. The site will include a 435,000 square foot retail hub, a premium full service hotel, and other amenities.

This is great for all hockey fans and others who would like a sports arena close to home. Also, Long Islanders will get to see the Rangers and Islanders play against each other, exciting for many of us.
