Readers Write: Markowitz learns wrong Holocaust lesson

The Island Now

When you study the Holocaust you can learn two types of lessons from, positive and negative.

Positive Lesson:  If you are a soldier, sergeant, lieutenant, general, etc, in the army and are asked to commit acts of genocide to be responsible for your actions, refuse to do unethical actions.  Don’t just follow orders.  It is a principle regardless of the situation.

Negative Lessons:  Hate language and scare tactics could have a monumental impact in directing the masses in hideous directions and actions.

I am sure that Mr. Steven Markowitz, the chairman of the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is quite familiar with both lessons.

Unfortunately, at some point, he chose to use the negative lesson.

The positive lesson is to be the lesson for the future of mankind, not to be ever forgotten.
