Readers Write: Afghan immigrants pose threat to U.S.

The Island Now

Time after time I read the lie that Republicans are anti-immigrant and in your editorial today you repeat that lie and blame it on the fact that they are “brown skinned people.” Do you really think that the average GOP voter is worried about their color?  Color is all that the left thinks about and I would call that in itself a racist trait.

Illegal immigration is the problem and allowing and encouraging hundreds of thousands of unknowns to pour across our border is a dangerous practice and, frankly, against immigration laws. Over a million have come since Biden became president. Minimal or no vetting is done,  many are infected with Covid-19, and some were on the terror watch list and are criminals.  The American taxpayer is footing the bill for all of this during a pandemic and a period of economic strain.

It would not matter if Sweden was to the south of us with white blonds abounding, we would still feel the same.  It is about following our laws, having sensible immigration standards and protecting American citizens.  We are a country with borders. Stop perpetuating this falsehood. It rings hollow.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is cited as wanting Afghan refugees to go to a “neutral country” for vetting purposes, which you criticize because Cruz knew that “those immigrants coming have already been vigorously screened.” That statement tells me that you are not aware that the majority of the refugees that arrived on planes had no papers or visas. The majority of those who helped us and had been screened and had passports and papers are still back in Afghanistan and in danger.

How did this happen?  Is it because the Taliban stopped these people with papers at checkpoints, beat them, stole their passports and papers and did not let them through? Story after story was coming out of Afghanistan of events like  this and what was done about it? Nothing.  The Taliban will do this and the Taliban will do that and guess what, they didn’t.

We now find out that Biden was asked if he wanted to be in control of the city of Kabul and maintain security and he said no.  It was a terrible mistake and probably cost the lives of all of those servicemen and is responsible for our Afghan helpers not getting to the airport, along with our American citizens. One bad decision after another from this man and his incompetent generals and administration. Our servicemen and women were heroes to the end and deserved better.

Reuters has released a transcript of a conversation between Biden and then President of Afghanistan Ghani from July 23 where Ghani tells Biden that an invasion by the Taliban and other terrorists is inevitable and that he needs air cover to help to drive them back.  Biden says he will supply the air cover until Aug. 31 but he needs to have the “perception” about how the war is going on the ground to change,” even if it is not true.” He wants Ghani to lie about it to cover the lies that he has been telling the American people for months.

They all knew that Afghanistan was going to fall into the Taliban’s hands in the near future. A quid pro quo by Joe, a repeat performance of his Ukrainian quid pro quo. The air base was no longer in our control and Ghani fled the country a few weeks later with piles of money, or so they say, in his grip.

I guess what is so shocking about your opinion page and all of the other columns is there is no mention of any of the tragic events of last week.  Nothing in your editorial about the deaths of our servicemen, not one criticism of Joe Biden or anyone associated with this debacle. I do not know when articles are submitted, but what happened last week is a stop the presses moment and it is incomprehensible that a newspaper would not have some mention of this painful travesty.

Now let’s see what this administration does to get these people out of Afghanistan and to safety and pray that the murders are not already in full swing of our loyal Afghans and Americans.  How many Americans and Afghan loyalists did you get out of Afghanistan today, Joe? What have you done to get the girls soccer team to safe ground ?

I still hear those crickets and hear the voices of the helpless calling out to the man who said he would leave no one behind.
