Readers Write: City too strict in issuing gun-carrry permits

The Island Now

As a lifelong New Yorker, I have a full understanding of the reasoning behind the gun-carry permit restrictions here.

That said, political pressure from City Hall has been severely applied to the NYPD gun-permit unit to deny carry permits to many with legitimate needs, including dealing in large sums of cash. Several such persons denied are clients and personal friends.

But this issue arises more generally over genuine fear of crime. The very elected officials who will direct our legal representatives who will argue the case in the Supreme Court are the same people who have overseen the emasculation of our police, the prosecutorial discretion to not prosecute whole categories of crime, enacted the “no bail” law and the release of repeat hard offenders.
