Readers Write: Glickman a leader for future of G.N . schools

The Island Now

Fifteen years ago, we moved from the city to Great Neck to start our careers as well as our family. We have never regretted that decision.

Our two children at North Middle have benefited from the high standards of the Great Neck School District, which we hope recognizes that preparing for the future will determine if new young families make the same decision.

Leadership in our school district is the key to its future success.  Consequently, we endorse Michael Glickman, as he is intelligent, innovative, and committed to our community.

Michael is no stranger to those who live in Great Neck. Michael has served as president of the Gold Coast Arts Center (formerly the Great Neck Arts Center).

At one of the many galas I went to at the arts center in support of Michael, I learned about the tough situation that Arts center faced at the time of Great Recession, when many non for profits were failing.  I heard how Michael reached out to many in the community, he worked closely with all stakeholders in order to come up with a partnership with the Town of North Hempstead to position the arts center through that time.

Thanks to Michael and the rest of the team at the Gold Coast Arts Center thousands of children in our community have access to the arts.

In times as challenging as ours, we need a school board that truly values and listens to the voices in the community.  We are confident that the same abilities of listening and engaging with the community that Michael demonstrated at the arts center, he will bring to the school board.

Michael’s career has been one of involvement in the many aspects of education, whether being the resident and CEO of the New York Holocaust Museum (Museum of Jewish Heritage) or a vice resident at Long Island University.

Anyone acquainted with Michael from his working on the Great Neck School Districts Board of Education Citizens Advisory Committee or as part of the United Parent-Teacher Council Budget Committee, knows his ability to ask the tough questions and see the big picture.

He has the talent to bring people together and has the determination to make the tough decisions and get the work done.  Michael wants future generations of children to be able to access an excellent education with outstanding teachers and up to date technologies.  The decisions that the school board makes today will have implications for the years to come.

We want future young families to say they want Great Neck because the educational experience is second to none. We know that will be far more possible if our community supports Michael Glickman for school board.
