Readers Write: Passover 2021

The Island Now

This year we not only celebrate, but once again we seek liberation from bondage.

The celebration part is in eternal gratitude for blessings past .

The quest part is for both universal release from the bondage of the devastating present pandemic plague, as well as the ongoing man-made plague of denying equal dignity and justice to neighbor and stranger.

We are not free from bondage if we are seen as strangers in our own land.

In the case of hate, otherism and discrimination, let not our silence be deafening, lest our failure to publicly object to the malicious malignant maligning of ‘THEM’, be tolled as our acquiescence.

One either agrees or objects. Abstaining is not an objection.

When they start to run out of sacrificial lambs, you move up on the list.

How timely a holiday when we are to teach the generations that even on the stormy nights  we leave the door open that all who hunger may partake.

Dayenu: Always be grateful, but justice demands it is never enough if only we are free.
