Schools reopened in the East Williston School District just a short while ago, yet students at The Wheatley School are already breaking academic achievement records and setting the bar even higher for those students following in their footsteps.
One hundred seventy students at The Wheatley School have been awarded the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program following their exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement exams.
“We are so proud of these students’ accomplishments and so thankful for the support and dedication of their teachers,” High School Principal Sean Feeney said.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides students with the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school. Students can earn college credit, advance placement or both for successfully completing the AP exams administered at the end of each AP course. This year, approximately 18% of the nearly 2.8 million high school students worldwide who took AP exams achieved scores high enough to earn AP Scholar Award recognition.
The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on performance on AP exams including:
AP Scholar with Distinction Award: Eighty-eight students achieved this prestigious national recognition by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these AP exams. In addition to these highly coveted recognitions, 19 students earned the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma by completing the AP Seminar and AP Research courses and passing four additional AP examinations. Of this year’s award recipients at The Wheatley School, 86 earned them as juniors (designated with *) and 15 earned them as sophomores (designated with **). These members of the Class of 2022 and 2023 have more time during which to complete college-level work and possibly earn another AP Scholar Award recognition.
