Port Rowing has a seat for everyone this fall. Programs are available for high school and middle school students, adult and master rowers, and for teens with special needs.

An informational meeting for fall 2018 season will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Port Washington Public Library. The meeting is mandatory for all high school and middle school rowers and parents, both new and experienced. Middle School meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and High School begins at 7:45 p.m.

The Port Rowing High School teams are made up varsity and junior varsity for both boys and girls in ninth to 12th grade.  All levels of skill and experience are welcome. The teams will be grouped into squads of similar abilities for racing and training on land and on the water.

Practices for returning rowers begins Aug. 27. Novice rowers begin Sept. 5.

The Port Rowing Middle School developmental team is for seventh and eighth-grade students. The schedule is designed to find a balance between school schedules and extracurricular activities. Middle school rowers begin training on land to prepare for working on the water. Practices will include fun, team building activities mixed with skill development and safe rowing technique. Practices begin Sept. 12.

The rowing experience offers a unique physical outlet for teens with special needs. Participants in Port Rowing’s Adaptive program not only gain fitness, improve gross motor skills and rowing technique, but also participate in team building and partnership development. The cornerstone of the adaptive program is pairing peer mentors with each of the members of the adaptive team.

Port Rowing is a community based, inclusive organization, which promotes good sportsmanship, strong work ethic, leadership skills, teamwork, and overall fitness. The coaches strive to effectively train and challenge the athlete while building for success at every level of rowing. For practice and regatta schedules, visit www.portrowing.org.
