Sands Point Trustee Katharine Ullman provided the board with a brief update on road work during last Tuesday’s meeting, saying that a bid had been accepted on repaving the stretch of Middle Neck Road between Astor Place and Vanderbilt Drive. Work will begin in the spring.

Work on the road between Astor Lane and Campus Drive in Port Washington is currently underway.

She also said she had discussed the village’s taking over Cow Neck Road from the county.

“Brian and I and our consultants … met with four people from the Nassau County roads department, and they wanted to know if we were satisfied with what they had done on Cow Neck Road,” she said, referring to Brian Gunderson, the superintendent of water and public works. “We said we were most grateful, but we did indicate we were not interested in taking it over unless more drainage was put in.”

The board authorized the extension of a contract with VHB Engineering to continue the dock moratorium study. The moratorium on the construction of docks, floats, piles or boat lifts in the village was put in place last October so the effect of the structures on the environment and aesthetics could be studied. Last month, the trustees voted to extend the moratorium for six months.

Ullman said she had recently worked with one of the consultants herself.

“On a very cold day, we went on a field trip and we saw a lot,” she said, with Mayor Edward Adler adding that they visited many of the beaches in the village.

Most of the brief meeting was focused on the village’s and the Village Club’s financial reports. Trustee Peter Forman said that the village’s general fund could handle the paving efforts. As for the Village Club, he said that the number of golf rounds rebounded in 2018 and membership increased, driving up revenue. But ground expenses for things such as irrigation were higher than expected.
