Rockettes pay visit to Roslyn

The winter holidays came a little early this year in Roslyn with a visit Thursday from members of the New York Rockettes.

YOLO Yogurt Lounge & Desserteria hosted two of the ensemble’s dancers, who  met with fans, posed for selfies and signed autographs. They presented a certificate naming the yogurt shop an official place of joy for the holidays.

The owners, Frank Guglielmi and Shila Roofim, said they were just as excited as the children to hear the Rockettes were coming to their shop.

“We couldn’t believe it,” Roofim said. “We were like, ‘What, the Rockettes? Who?’”

Guglielmi said he first missed the call from Madison Square Garden that said the Rockettes were stopping by.

“I thought it was just a solicitation, I never called it back,” he said. “But when I called it eventually it was Madison Square Garden, I thought this must be a sales call. Then I got the call again and I said, ‘You’re not going to believe this.’ I thought if we would’ve missed that it would’ve been terrible.”

The Old Northern Boulevard yogurt shop was packed with children and parents lining up to meet the Rockettes.

“It’s so great we’re able to escape the city and come to a great town like Roslyn,” said a Rockette, Melissa Hillmer.

YOLO had special holiday flavors to welcome the Rockettes, including peppermint mocha, egg nog and gingerbread.

“The famous question was how did we get them to come here,” Guglielmi said. “We still don’t know that to this day, and we don’t want to know, we’re just happy.”
